...and include (by the photos) a ruggedized PC ($3000) with software
development costs, a good servo controlled arm ($1000), and whatever
angst he went through to develop the R/C comms to be fairly combat
robust in noisy environments, with range great enough to keep the
soldiers well out of harm's way while operating it.

$10k is a steal.
