Thanks Peter and thanks also to Vasile. The switch mode I had was not that good, but I wasn't able to find a better one. Actually it was a portable computer one, rated 5A. Problem is that commercial smpsu for this application have LIVE wires and the lamp has exposed metal arms to carry power.
