Just to play devil's advocate...

The GNU ARM tools were all written with the larger ARMs in mind.
How many of those compilers produce code that will run on the
limited resources of a Luminary chip?  (and how much program?)
Do the comilers support the Cortex (thumb-only) instruction set
processors?

 From the forums at Luminary, it looks like there is currently no
support for the cheap open source JTAG tools...  So far your only
choices are the $775 development board from Luminary or the ~$200
usb board from Rowley...
