They are already the No 1 in the 8-bit market in terms of unit shipment. So they have to look up. They want to be a 2-billion company so they got to be successful in the 16-bit market. If Microchip would license the ARM core, then maybe it is a different story. I think Microchip will beat Atmel and Philips pretty easily in the ARM clone market if they want to.
