I have spoken to quite some people who are using AVRs/8051s/ARMs and their perception of PICs are in general staying at PIC16C/16Fs. The response is in general "Oh PIC, I know they are simple to use but the architecture sucks and they are not good at more complicated tasks". Apparently they do not know much of the existence of PIC24/dsPICs. And if I look into the current consumption of dsPICs, I won't use them either in the applications where power consumption will really be an issue in small housings.
