> I've just had a look, and there are no pictures of any kind - > did I go to the wrong place? > > (eg: http://www.piclist.com/techref/postbot.asp and then > search on, say, author). > > Cheers, > > > Howard Winter > St.Albans, England If you put Howard Winter in the "Author" box and hit enter, it will show you all of your posts for this month. If you then click on the number of the post... Now that is a bit tricky... Let me guide you through that. After pressing Enter you will see: Thread / Posts [ee] Basic physics... Bicycle regenerative braking 6th 1, 5, 18, 24 7th 88 8th 159 And so on... "[ee] Basic physics... Bicycle regenerative brakin" is the first thread you posted on this month. It is linked to a complete display of that thread including the text of each post. It should probably highlight your name, but it doesn't. I'll add that to the to do list. Also on that list is making that display show the next so many posts since the last time you visited the archive sorted by thread. So you can click on one link and be reading the list from where you left off. Back to the display: The "6th" is linked to all the posts on the 6th with your posts highlighted. The 1 is linked to your first post on that thread, the "5" is then your second post on the thread, and is 5 posts after your first. And so on until the "24" which is your final post on that thread for that day. Then the "7th" is the next day (all posts, yours highlighted) followed by more "post numbers" and so on. If you were to click on the "1" you would see (over on the left side, but you can customize that from the opening screen to put posts on the right or the bottom or to remove frames and just put everything in one window) ebay language basic Ads by Google C Compiler Compiler Download Fortran Compiler Optimization piclist 2006\05\06\085914a > Thread: Basic physics... Bicycle regenerative braking forces www.piclist.com/techref/language/index.htm?key=basic BY: Howard Winter email (remove spam text) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- Then the body of the post. Taking that header line by line: "piclist 2006\05\06\085914a > " This is the piclist archive (yes the program will handle other archives, but I do not currently archive any other lists) and the year, month, day and exact time the post hit the MIT server. The month and day are linked to indexes of the posts for that month and day. The ">" to the right is linked to the next post chronologically. "Thread: Basic physics... Bicycle regenerative braking forces " The word "Thread" is linked to an index of all posts on this thread. Each word is linked to a subject line search for other threads. E.g. if you click on "Bicycle" you will get an index of all the threads on the list that have started with that word or contain that word in the subject. "www.piclist.com/techref/language/index.htm?key=basic" This is the programs best guess for a FAQ page related to this post. It does pretty well for [PIC] posts, but in this case, it is guessing the thread is about the BASIC programming language. AI is artificial. "eBay language basic Ads by Google C Compiler Compiler Download Fortran Compiler Optimization" The word "ebay" links to ebay listings for "language basic" which would be sort of useful if this page were really about the BASIC language. Same for Google except that they are looking for ads related to the content of the FAQ page. " " This is your lovely mug, a link to your home page (based on the domain of your email address) and the icon for your ISP and your country. " BY: Howard Winter email (remove spam text) " Your name, your email address (obfuscated to prevent spammers spidering the archive for addresses) and a warning that the email address is not actually correct. In this case, it has turned your real email address into "TakeThisOuTHDRW@spam@@@spam@H2Org.demon.co.uk" Which a human MIGHT be able to clean up if they really wanted to contact you. At the bottom of the post is a link to the post you were replying to which doesn't work... Hummm.... Bug fixing ahead. And below that is a form to use to reply to this post. One of these days, I'm going to make it possible for list members to use my server to reply directly from them form, but for now, it invokes your email client, which if you have Outhouse and XP, is a major pain in the butt. The Quote button is sort of cool if you have IE... It will take any selected text, clean it up and quote it into the message box. The link in the top of the message box is the minimum length link that will get you to this post in the archive. After that is a link to the posts for this month and a link back to the start for a new search. On the right hand side, a the top of the list of posts from Howard Winter in the month of May are links to posts from Howard in the prior and later months ("<" and ">"). The word "May" is linked to a month overview of posts from Howard (which doesn't seem to be working correctly... More bug fixing) and the "2006" links to ALL posts from Howard for the year and from that you can get the entire prior, next or any year.
