This size does fit, so if it works I don't need to compress it. And the 'field service' guys can at the very most be trusted to find the correct screwdriver and open the box, I would not let them read binary, BCD, or anything else. Using a 7-segment might (for the above reason) be even better, but it is slightly more work to apply the solder. But I think I will give that a try next time.
