Well, you know what they say about the grass on the other side of the fence always looking greener... I thought it was great working 60 hours/week back when I was younger. I was changing the world! And it was FUN. It's now that I'm older, with a family, considering retirement someday, that it's getting a little old. Impersonal retirement benefits ("well match your 401k contributions up to X"), no golden parachutes... I happened to be really lucky/etc, so I'm in good shape, but a lot of people in my same job classification aren't so lucky. Of course, non-engineers have similar problems.
