You could crush or pierce either without necessarily causing an explosion as you still need a spark to ignite the fuel (though I guess liquid propane expands fairly quickly when the pressure is released). Piercing a Li-Po is quite likely to make it go pop if my RC Heli experiences are anything to go by...
