You're right, I didn't enjoy reading that one bit.  I think I could become vegitarian if I could be convinced that it would make the slightest bit of difference apart from saving my own conscience, but to acheive anything significant I think the laws regarding the treatment of these animals has to be tightened up and enforced.  Of course it would put the price of meat and eggs up, but I'm not convinced that is such a bad thing, there are numerous other healthy/nutritious foods that are inexpensive to buy.
