Dear SXers:
Customers who are hiring programming houses where specialized equipment (such as BP Microsystems) is put to use may experience a minor problem with SX20 programming. The technical issue is the following:
- The BP-4100 (and perhaps other volume chip programming machines) check the PINS bit in the FUSEX word to differentiate between the 20 and 28 pin parts.
- Ubicom shipped the SX20 with this bit CLEARED; Parallax shipped the parts with the bit SET. These settings are both a result of each company's SX testing procedure.
* Parallax SX chips being programmed on this machine won't program, or will be recognized with an ID number not consistent with prior SX chips programmed on the same machine.
Customers experiencing this problem have the following two options:
- The programming house's equipment supplier can update their SX software programming specification to ignore the initial setting of the PINS bit in FUSEX (Parallax has already contacted BP Microsystems to provide an update to their SX programming software). This is not a problem with Parallax SX programming tools.
* Send your SX20 parts back to Parallax and we'll send you parts that have the FUSEX bit CLEARED, consistent with the way Ubicom shipped them.
Effective April 3, 2006, our SX testing facility CLEARED the FUSEX bit on SX20 chips, consistent with the prior Ubicom procedure. Therefore, this only applies to customer orders received between the end of March and sometime around April 10, 2006 (the possible time we started shipping tested SX20 chips with the FUSEX bit set to zero.
If you have any concern or need additional information about this issue please feel free to contact me or reply to this post.
Sincerely,
Ken Gracey
