Pickit 2 is a good start but the supported chips are too narrow. I do know that Microchip has open their src code but not sure to what extend did they allow support to other PIC chips. I do like the idea of EasyProg b'cos they have support for the Zif Socket*build in* and the ICSP. I was also tempted in getting the PICkit 2 but the support was to narrow to me. All in all PICkit 2 is the best solution for entry into PIC from microchip. FAR cheaper than my PICStart+. Still .......about it's lack of support for dsPIC. PICkit2 from the current list does not support PIC16F88 which I like a lot........ Okay, my choice for the PIC support here. But you got to like the size and the INTRC here :) But to be fair PICkit2 look very robust with it's casing. WHICH I look for when carrying to customer site if one has to do so. PS: EasyProg support dsPIC which I believe one would venture sooner or later. john --- Maarten Hofman wrote: > > > > kits are one of the better programmers out there. > > PICkit is so so but the user would soon out grow > it. > > > Now I'm not saying anything about other programmers > being better, as I am > sure there are better programmers out there, but > I've had the PICkit 2 for > some time now, and doubt I will grow out of it soon. > It does everything I > would ever want: ICSP and (using the demoboard and a > board I created myself) > off-line programming of a wide range of PICmicros, > which include all the > ones I have, and more.
