Mine works fine, and has been for quite some time now.  (Which is not 
any help to you, of course, other than to convey the message that you 
most likely did something wrong in assembling  the kit.  :-)  I've found 
it to be very helpful to use a magnifying  glass and a strong light, and 
examine all the solder joints in great detail.  But it is, 
unfortunately, just going to be a matter of tediously going through and 
examining  the construction, more than likely.
