That's where compulsive gamblers go wrong - my father was one, and the list of things he lost is long, and starts with the house we had, his business partnership, his family (for a few months)... when he died he left my brother, sister and I nothing but debts (actually you can't pass on debts, but otherwise that would have been the case). The biggest problem is that he wouldn't admit he had a problem, so would not seek help for it.
