Oops." SW that was intended to be open source from the start would be better. The situation with Tivo is probably a better example. Although - I think the official theory is that all other WRT54G software is a "support nightmare." (note "theory" - I'm not sure that this is true.) Newer versions of the box labeled WRT54G have different HW, the official software is no longer linux based, and the third-party images don't run. For which we were duly dinged by the open source community. (though I can see both sides of THAT.)
