Hmm, it's working fine for me.  The profile page UI isn't what it should be.
It can look like you made a change, but you have to click OK way at the
bottom for anything you set to actually take effect.  You also have to be
subscribed to the thread to get email notification.  It's a good idea to
enable "always subscribe to threads when I post" also on the profile
configuration page.  You can also go to the subscriptions page and check
that you are subscribed to that thread.
