With the internal osc at 4MHz the max latency should be <=1uSec. Not as quick as one may like but still very usuable for a whole range of motors - certainly every smallish, sub 30V DC motor i've ever tried it with. So a 3 parts solution is: L6203, PIC12F and the sense resistor. If your main PIC has an available comparator then you save yourself the 12F and have a 2 parts solution.
