This week, Sun announced the soon-to-be-availability of SunSPOT developer's kits. (http://www.sunspotworld.com/products/) These little guys have a 32-bit ARM processor, 512K of RAM, 4M flash, USB, 2.4GHz wireless, 3-axis accelerometer, temp & light sensors, and would seem to be somewhat PIC or hobbiest friendly, with pins left over for GPIO. They claim to be Java-programmable, and remotely, securely updateable via wireless. The dev kit (which includes 3 SPOTs) seems a little pricey, but I'm intrigued. The Java interface seems like it's aimed at the click & drool crowd, but I'm all for rapid prototype tools, and opening the field of embedded devices to a wider hobbiest audience. Is anyone else? Tell me why they suck, and what better/cheaper tools/toys are out there. Thanks. -Sean -- Sean C.
