I did some informal tests on just a single project and found that BoostC produced slightly tighter code than Hi-Tech, and mikroElectronika's output was about twice as large as either of the other two. Just a single data point, YMMV, etc... but all three are free to try, and it was very interesting running the same program through all three and seeing what I had to do differently.
