Actually I saw an episode of Myth Busters where they used ground penetrating
radar to disprove that theory.

I lived in norther NJ for two year once, and there are no shortage of
stories of people who claim to have fried that knew somebody's second cousin
that was told...  The one theory I heard most often from different sources
was that he was wearing cement overshoes in Raritan Bay, not the Hudson.
Then there are a whole different set of rumors in the Chicago are about him
ending up in Lake Michigan.  I don't expect to ever know for sure.  Maybe a
few 100 years from now an archeologist will scratch his head over a concrete
slab with foot holes in it.
