My first 'real job' as a software engineer was with Genicom where I did firmware for laser, dot matrix and shuttle matrix (a weird sort of sideways dot matrix comb vibrating horizontally firing pins when they were both in place horizontally due to the swing and vertically due to paper slew. Used to have boxes of print heads laying around. But then again firing jets of colored ink...
