9-bit mode in ausart modul isnt enough for rs-485 systems?

an excerpt from the 18fxx2 datasheet

16.2.3 SETTING UP 9-BIT MODE WITH
ADDRESS DETECT
"This mode would typically be used in RS-485 systems."
