They will only start to sell glass measured in mm when no imperial glass is available on the market anymore. But it seems to me that I see a slowly growing amount of mechanical specs in metric or metric and imperial units. Additionally, the rest of the world is (almost) metric. (Notwithstanding the pints in England :) Science in the USA is metric. The automotive industry in the USA is metric.
