Thank you Reggie.  I would need only VPW now with GM vehicle.  Who knows
later?

Vitaliy indicated the company he works for and looking there find they have
several chips (PICs) to handle the various protocols.  Just yesterday
noticed the ELM327 which supposedly handles all, including CAN, though noted
schematic showed a chip to handle the actual OBD CAN i/f.  So now have too
many directions to go at the moment.  I may just 'break down' and get one of
those chips.  Sort of a choice of how much time vs. $$s to spend.

So for now, this thread can be closed as far as I'm concerned.
