For those who haven't seen it, it's somewhat interesting.  Basically,
several college-age email users were asked to send a message to
someone else in the study using either a serious or sarcastic tone to
describe one of several common topics.  The recipient was then asked
to determine the tone used.  The recipients thought they were right
about 80% of the time, but were, in fact, only right about 50% of the
time.

Something worth thinking about when emailing or, say, posting to a
mailing list...
