You can use the original two signals to read out from the chip, and use another one that provides the data that should come out. The circuit then compares the two, and if there is a difference, it triggers an LED through a flip-flop that can only be reset manually. You just try again then... Might need an enable signal for the comparison, but in principle it should work.
