presumablly the LCD issue is just a timing problem though with "modern" 8ms refresh displays it should be less so. actually i have heard of a few "other" devices using this sort of scheme. seriously though if you were wanting to make a "programs all" device that presumablly must be updatablle. a USB powered programmer is going to wind up about the same price and whats more theres plenty of them around. PICaxe has its place but it seems to create a fair few problems as soon as you try to do something more than flash LED's and the like.
