The slightly newer version is called PICSTART-16C. I just checked the Microchip Technical Library CDROM First Edition 2000. The CD has the user guide and DOS software for it. It seems to me that PICStart-16B1 software (v5.00, 1995) supports the following device: 16C54/54A/55/56/57/58A/61/ 620/621/622/71/71A and the 16C84.
