Finer tip (needle) does not work too well.  The paste clogs the tip and, if you 
apply more pressure, just the flux comes through.  I ended up going back to the 
original syringe.  I am just trying to put small dots of the paste.
Hope this helps.  Anyone knows a way to make inexpensive stencils?
