The scary thing is termites in houses are destroyed using microwaves 
too.  Cook 'em and leave them where they are.  Seemed scary, but a 
landlord in California had tht done and it seemed to take care of the 
termites.  I don't know if the neighbors got warm or not, but I took my 
parrot and left for the day.

Using a microwave to defrost the ground doesn't seem too unreasonable. 
Using a 75,000 watt one seems scary.  I bet they use duct tape to hold 
something in place.
