IMHO -- The biggest problem with avr-as is that you cant assemble ANY of the sample code from atmel. Which rev of avra are you using? I forgot to take better notes on the version that I origionally ran up it was not exactly generalized but it worked. When I installed the most recent one since it was supposed to support the tiny25/45/85 it cores (1.1.0 on osx panther) (by this time i had overwritten my working assembler) so I am patching 1.0.1 to add the tiny45 and moving on to the meat of the matter working on my target code witout sending money to the filfthy rich man up north. I will add the "debug the new avra" to my list of things to do someday.
