Hi-Tech was making pic compilers before MPLAB supported relocatable code. They had no reason to break from their way of doing things. So there's no way anyone could find fault with Hi-Tech here - actually more reason to find fault with Microchip for not following Hi-Tech's way of doing things when the time came to bring MPLAB up to date. But really, it doesn't matter. It'll be easier for Olin to use C18 because he has lots of code that won't need to be altered very much.
