If you are building more than 1 or 2 of these an auto insertion 
machine would be nice.

Even as a one off surface mount components may make sense - 
aesthetically as well as circuit wise.

Will your thermochromatic paint have faded too much after say 50 years 
? :-)
Who can tell you?
Do you trust them?
