I would like to use minicom as a serial terminal, but I cannot seem to get it to connect/work.  Has anyone any experience with this?  I'm connecting with a null modem cable from /dev/ttyS0 to the device which is 9600 N81.  My problem is that I cannot figure out how to get minicom to work; it always says Offline as the status.

I know that the connection works because I can use the gui terminal program that comes with Linux (ppp something I forgot) and it works perfectly.  I'd like to use minicom because xwindows only works on the machine itself and because of the firewall I cannot use it remotely.

How do I get minicom to go online?
