This thread reminds me of some events when i worked 
for a large japanese company,i looked after 150 machine tools
which where fully computer controlled.Production problems due to 
size differences where experienced,the blame put on us lazy english
workers;we eventually traced the problem ourselves,the material 
supplied from japan was the wrong diameter! Being trained in electronics
before taking up a'grunt' job i often stopped to talk to the works electricians
as they battled the machines (without schematics,the japanese classed 
them as industrial secrets!) having seen a japanese technician scratching 
his head for three days over a machine fault i eventually passed on (again)
the message that the motor had burned out on the night shift,the whole hog,
smoking windings, burning belts,smoke.the english junior elctrician put his
meter on it for twenty seconds; before replacing the motor.
