We use a ProMate II for production. We also have a ProMate, but cannot use
it any more since it does not support recent chips or the recent versions
of MPLAB. I think they're up to ProMate3 or so by now. So, I'd not get a
ProMate. A PromMateII is probably ok, though. You'll also need socket
modules for the chips you want to program. The modules are compatible
between the different ProMate models.
