I use 22pF on each side. The waveform looks OK on the
scope - sinusoidal and symmetrical

You say

value of 44pF for each cap. However, you must subtract a bit for the
parasitic capacitance, and the chip's input capacitance. The final formula

Was fixed 22pF reasonable to start with ?
