I have a special test stick, made by Kodak. I do not know the original
purpose of it apart from being designed for detecting IR illumination. It
consists of a piece of FR4 about an inch wide and 4-5 inches long, with a
blob of some sort of epoxy on the end that is sensitive to IR light. Flashes
quite noticeably when a TV remote is directed at it from a few inches.
