Bill,

Copying the file to DVD will not work.

DVD needs to be the correct format etc for it to work.

Have a look over at http://www.dvdrhelp.com

There are lots of free tools for converting and generally the free ones 
work better that the commercial ones but tend not to
be 'click and go'
