I did a little surgery to the laptop's screen tonight and found out that unfortunately, even if I managed to get a different inverter to fit in there, there actually no room in the assembly for a second lamp on the other side of the screen. Bummer, I was actually hoping that was eventually going to be what I needed to do. Worse case scenario I could get one of these new 7 inch lcd monitors since the laptop does have a video port, but it's like $200+ for each one of those (have not tried ebay yet).
