Of course we didn't call it that. I can say this with first hand knowledge I as I posted my source code to BBS's back that far. I'm pretty certain that this kind of thinking went on before that and probably the computer age. Sorry I've tried to stay out of this, too many 'religious' folk who only see the world their way.
