You'll have maintenance nightmares with just the physical wiring... perhaps what you really need is a smarter server. It seems to me that 120 students downloading 6MB ought to take no longer than 15 minutes if you only let one of them download it at a time, and that even a modest server and network infrastructure ought to be able to handle several such downloads at one time. The 120 simultaneous access are causing thrashing and pessimal behavior for everyone. Servers ought not offer to do more than they are capable of. (that's SUPPOSED to be built into assorted protocols like TCP and even "ethernet.")
