I'm trying to figure out how to look for a certain circuit (using 
Google) and cannot quite seem to come up with a search phrase that gets 
any meaningful hits.

The particular circuit I want would take as input a wave (probably a 
sine wave, but it could also be a square wave or triangular wave) which 
might vary in strength from a few millivolts or so up to a few volts.  
The circuit would output a square wave of about 5 volts.

I think there are some "words of art" to use in describing such a 
circuit, but don't remember (if I ever knew) what they are.  Can anyone 
help?  (A useful circuit would be nice, also, but I'd still like to know 
what to call it. :-)
