My day job needs a new program and it is probably more than I can manage with my current load. I've done lots of stuff in Perl, C and script for servers and on the command line and even some Win32Asm code but not much GUI type stuff and never with the system tray... And I'm totally swamped at the moment, so I'd really like some help. It would be a Win32 background program with a minimal user interface. It would set in the system tray and watch for certain files to appear. When these files have finished being written, the application needs to open them and do certain search and replace operations on them. I can help with the code for this part, mostly we need a framework. After the files have been massaged, they are copied out to another file or port (such as LPT1). In addition to that, a small user interface needs to be available that allows the user to select a printer from the list of those locally available and change its port to a file. This is the file that is being modified. If you haven't worked with printer drivers, don't sweat, I can help with that... Although... If you know how to write a port monitor, that would be VERY cool. Finally, it would be very nice if the tray icon could tell users what printer is directed to the file it is monitoring and indicate when it is processing that file and to which port it will be forwarded afterwards. Since I need to be able to "take over" this project and mess with the code after it gets to a minimal level, we would like it to be written in something that has a low cost development system. Examples would be MinGW, Borland C or Pascal, Win32Asm (MASM), etc... We would pay in small increments for small progress and would ALWAYS want to have the development system and source available here. It seems to me like the best idea would be if we could start with some existing project or available template and work towards our goal from there. The financial model that we like is for you to hook us in with something that is a step in the right direction and then bleed us slowly over a long time. --- James. -- http://www.piclist.com PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist
