Ethernet consists of twisted pairs.

A better choice would probably be the type of flat phone cable that is
not twisted. Twisted cable increases crosstalk and would reduce the
already short allowable length of cable (about 6 or 8 inches).

If you cannot find this individual conductors crimped in the connectors
should also be OK
