The excitation was supplied electromagnetically. As I recall, the exterior of the horn had to be incredibly smooth, as any nick would create a "hot spot", and distort the harmonics. If you have more specific questions, I *may* be able to help. Pretty neat concept, though. I've also heard / seen that they are welding steel in a similar manner. D.
