When I did all that moulds ( plastic injection and plastic thermoformation), here in Romania we did first a 3D model in software (we used 3D Studio, but you can use anyother 3d modeling software) to show your idea to both parts: your clients and your subcontractor, after that, if will be useful you can do a protype in one way or other.
