I know what you mean, but then... portability is not a yes/no question,
it's a more/less question. And in that, I think that well-written C is
probably the most portable language for small micros (if you use compilers
that are either reasonably standard or all from the same vendor).

That doesn't mean you can run code unaltered, unreviewed and untested on
several different models or families, but that the work to port it is less
than with other solutions.
