Grinder, my experiences with this error message are (in order of importance): 1. The ground between the ICD2 and the breadboard needs to be beefed up with an external ground. The easiest way to grab a good ground on the ICD2 is actually to solder a #20 hi-flex wire to the USB cable (exposed at the ICD2). Without this, you will have a flimsy #26 telephone wire. Attacfh the other end of the #20 wire to the breadboard. 2. The oscillator on the breadboard itself is not running (could be anything). 3. Configuration improperly set when switching from programming mode back to debugger mode. Good luck! --Bob Grinder Smith wrote: >subject: [PIC]: ICD2 programming failure: ICD0083: >Target not in debug mode, unable to perform operation > >[Olin] > > >>>>Have you tried putting 47pF caps on the PGC and >>>> >>>> >PGD pins as close to the target PIC as possible? > >[Grinder] > > >>>No, and I will not. >>> >>> > >[Olin] > > >>Oh well then.
