Explains the relationship between the rubbish sensor size that makers usually use (and why they feel they can get away with using it) and actual size. As a rough rule of thumb actual sensor width is typically very slightly more than half the size that the name implies. eg a 2/3 inch sensor has an active sensor width of 8.8mm (whereas 2/3" = 16.93 mm). http://www.dpreview.com/news/article_print.asp?date=0210&article=02100402sensorsizes An "APSC" sensor, as used in many low to medium level DSLRs (including the one I am contemplating acquiring) has about 7 times the area of a 2/3" sensor (such as is used in my beloved 7Hi.) This implies, all things being equal (which they never are), almost 3 more stops of sensitivity. -- http://www.piclist.com PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist
